Guide for Yakuza 0 - Combat, Abilities, and Money Grinding (2024)

Both Kiryu and Majima have four different fighting styles that offer unique ways to fight. While each style is different from the other, the basics of combat are universal between all eight styles.

Most of your fighting is done doing anywhere between one and four Guide for Yakuza 0 - Combat, Abilities, and Money Grinding (1) presses, followed by a finisher with Guide for Yakuza 0 - Combat, Abilities, and Money Grinding (2). As you level up your styles, new combos and variations become available to Kiryu and Majima that go beyond spamming Guide for Yakuza 0 - Combat, Abilities, and Money Grinding (3) and Guide for Yakuza 0 - Combat, Abilities, and Money Grinding (4).

You use your hard-earned cash to purchase everything in this game, including style upgrades. The first abilities cost ¥50,000, while the most expensive can cost up to ¥2 billion apiece. Finding a balance between buying upgrades for each character's main three styles is the key to becoming stronger.

The fourth style for Kiryu and Majima is unlocked by completing the storyline for Real Estate Royale and Cabaret Club Czar, respectively. These trees have the most expensive upgrades in the game and offer minimal increases to strength, heat, and health. These are only worth upgrading when you have nothing else to spend your money on.

There is no correct way to build your characters. For an easier time, focus on Beast with Kiryu and Slugger/Breaker with Majima, but this game is easy enough that you won't hurt yourself if you don't do that. Finishing all five training trials for all six trainers will unlock some really nice abilities for each style, so do those as soon as you can for some nice upgrades.

Here is a breakdown of how much it will cost to fully upgrade each character.

Kiryu Style Trees

  • Brawler: ¥15,722,830,000
  • Rush: ¥18,221,200,000
  • Beast: ¥19,659,200,000

Majima Style Trees

  • Thug: ¥9,662,200,000
  • Slugger: ¥8,873,200,000
  • Breaker: ¥9,365,800,000

Purchasing skills for both Legend trees can give you a small boost, but it is not worth putting any money into them unless you have absolutely no other use for your money. They work differently from the main three styles and have a stand-alone levelling system after all the nodes are purchased that goes up to 999, which goes into the TRILLIONS of yen and beyond.

Making money fast

So, you've seen how much money is required to level up to the max, now how can you maximize your profits in the fastest and easiest way possible? There are two great methods: one passive and one active. Both can be done together or separately, but obviously, combining both methods will earn you more money the fastest.

  1. Real Estate Royale: Once you finish the RER story, control all five districts, and have all 50 businesses maxed out at an S Rank, you will be making upwards of ¥1.5 billion with each pay-out cycle (about 15 minutes). Constantly returning to your office and setting up a new pay-out cycle every so often is the best passive way to make money.
  2. Shake Down Mr. Shakedown: This is the absolute best way to rack up massive piles of cash but requires beating one of the hardest enemy types in the game over and over. However, there is a great way to exploit this, making what, on the surface, looks like a major challenge to child's play. Go to the shrine or temple and purchase the battle upgrade to get 1.5x what Mr. Shakedown is holding, equip the encounter finder, and go to the Dragon & Tiger and buy four or five zap guns. Open your map and look for a purple arrow. This is Mr. Shakedown. Make sure you have some healing on you and approach him. Once the fight starts, immediately lose if you're holding on to a large amount of money. Yes, you will lose everything you have, but this is what we want. Heal up, then enter and exit a building. Look for the purple arrow once again. He should have a bit more money on him than what you lost. Start the fight again, this time equipping one of your zap guns in the equipment screen. Pull it out with Guide for Yakuza 0 - Combat, Abilities, and Money Grinding (13). Dodge around his attacks and punish with a shot or two from the zap gun using Guide for Yakuza 0 - Combat, Abilities, and Money Grinding (14). His health will plummet from the assault. Even a max health Mr. Shakedown will fall after 13-15 shots from your zap guns. Once he's defeated, you will get all the money you lost, plus an additional 50% bonus from the shrine ability. Now, just keep alternating between losing to Mr. Shakedown and then winning it all back, watching your wallet grow fat. Make sure every now and then to return to the Dragon & Tiger to repair your empty zap guns. It is much cheaper than buying more.
