Weekly Update with Mayor Goode of Prescott | July 1 - Signals AZ (1)

Hello, I’m Mayor Phil Goode with your weekly update:

  • Water and Wastewater Rates
  • Water-conserving devices and rebates
  • Annual Drinking Water Quality Report
  • Prescott Public Library Parking Lot
  • Granite Mountain Hotshots Tribute
  • City of Prescott July 4 Closures
  • Fireworks at Watson Lake
  • City Council Meetings
  • Rodeo Week

I want to express my sincere condolences to family and friends of our past city councilman Alan Carlowe. His contributions to our city are memorable and he continued to follow our local government issues right up to his passing. Rest In Peace, Alan.

Recently, after completing financial planning, a public hearing, and a workshop, the City Council approved new water and wastewater rates which are now in effect

These rates will increase gradually over the next five years, to provide for infrastructure operation and maintenance costs, and ensure funding for replacement or refurbishment of aging water systems, some of which are well over 50 years old.

One way to save money on your water bill and conserve water is to install water-saving devices. You may even be able to receive rebates on some devices and on turf removal

These rebates are available to all City of Prescott water customers. Be sure to keep all receipts and visit the water website, linked below, for rules and guidelines.

The City is doing its part to enact a sensible water policy, so that we can manage growth and responsible water use for years to come. As citizens, it is up to all of us to do our part to conserve our precious water resource.

Also, on the topic of water, the Annual Drinking Water Quality Report for Reporting Year 2023 is now available online

The Water Quality Report is a comprehensive report issued by the City of Prescott Water Operations Division. This report identifies the sources of Prescott’s drinking water, provides water quality information, and summarizes analytical tests of the City’s drinking water supply for the calendar year 2023. During 2023, water from the City system met all applicable federal and state drinking water health standards.

This report is being delivered primarily through electronic distribution methods. Limited hard copies of the report will be available at the Prescott Public Library and City Hall beginning today.

I’m very pleased to announce that the reconstruction of the Prescott Public Library’s parking lot is complete, and the library’s Marina Street parking lot is now open

Reconstruction included the removal and replacement of the asphalt pavement, driveway entrances and parking stall striping. This project has successfully enhanced the library’s infrastructure and ADA compliance requirements.

I personally want to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we worked to make the library accessible for all.

For the last 10 years, a group of community members has quietly changed the “P” on Badger Mountain by adding “19” in honor of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot crew

Now, those responsible for initiating and maintaining the installation, have decided that the intent of the display is firmly and fittingly commemorated at the Granite Mountain Hotshot Tribute memorial installation at the Courthouse Plaza in Prescott. Therefore, the group feels it is time to let the “19” installation on “P” mountain come to an end. The anonymous group includes dedicated community members, former hotshots, and some of the family members of the 19.

According to the group, the “19” installation on “P” mountain was created to show deep respect and honor for the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot crew and epitomize the spirit of “I’ve got your six.” The “19” symbolized the crew’s silent commitment to fighting valiantly and was an enduring example of bravery, brotherhood, and selflessness.

As Prescott Fire Chief Holger Durre stated, “The Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot crew will always be remembered for their bravery and camaraderie, serving as an inspiration to all. The City of Prescott and the Prescott Fire Department are dedicated to honoring the legacy of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot crew and strive to uphold the values of bravery, brotherhood, and selflessness they embodied. We support the group’s decision to transition this legacy to the memorial on the Courthouse Square.”

Here at the City of Prescott, we all want to express our gratitude to those responsible for placing the 19 on “P” Mountain for the last 10 years.

City of Prescott offices and the Public Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day

However, the City of Prescott Transfer Station is closed on Thursday, July 4th. The Transfer Station reopens on Friday, July 5th as regularly scheduled.

I’m happy to announce that we WILL have Fireworks on Thursday, July 4th at Watson Lake

Working together with JARD Events, the City will host Prescott’s 4th – Freedom, Fun and Fireworks event on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Watson Lake. The family-friendly, free event begins at 1:00 pm, with fireworks expected to take place around 9:00 pm.

Most of Watson Lake will be closed starting tomorrow, July 2nd, until Friday morning.

State Route 89 will be closed beginning at 1 pm on July 4th until after the fireworks are over. The closure is between the Willow Lake Road roundabout and Prescott Lakes Parkway.

Parking is free for this event. Spaces at Watson Lake are limited and available on a first come first served basis. Once the parking at Watson Lake is full, overflow parking will be directed on to Highway 89.

Today is the beginning of Rodeo Week
