2009• Senior Season
Senior Tricia Woo capped her Husker career with stellar performances on vault, beam and floor for Nebraska in 2009. She entered her final season poised with the kind of experience in the gym that a young Husker squad could rely on. A three-time All-American, she won nine titles during the 2009 season, including seven on beam and two on floor. She was honored as Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week four times (Jan. 27, Feb. 10, Feb. 24 and March 18) and continually performed a high level for NU.
Woo narrowly missed qualifying for the 2009 NCAA Championships at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional in Raleigh, N.C. She posted a score of 9.90 on beam to come in second to Georgia’s Courtney McCool, who received a perfect 10.0 on the event. Her score marked the seventh time in 2009 that she earned a mark of 9.90 or better on beam, but it was not enough to send her to the Championships. She also added a 9.825 on floor at the Regional competition.
Woo opened the 2009 season by tying Jessica Lopez for the beam crown at Denver. She scored a 9.90 on the event and entered the second week of competition ranked-No. 1 nationally on beam. Woo totaled new career highs on vault, beam and floor in her senior campaign, posting a 9.925 on vault at the Masters Classic, hitting a 9.95 on beam and recording a 9.925 twice on floor as NU went on to upset then-No. 7 Oklahoma. In her last regular-season meet, Woo took the beam crown at UCLA hitting a 9.925. She hit scores of 9.95 two times on beam and 9.925 two times on floor. At the conclusion of the regular season, she tallied All-Big 12 honors on beam and floor as well as being named first-team academic All-Big 12.
2008 • Junior Season
Tricia Woo had a standout season in 2008, emerging as an all-arounder to complete Nebraska's injury-challenged lineups. The three-time All-American won seven event titles on beam and three on floor, including her first Big 12 beam crown at the conference championships.Woo earned career highs on bars (9.775) and in the all-around (39.25) at Penn State and on beam (9.925) against Arizona State. Woo was Nebraska's final individual to qualifyfor the NCAA Championships and competed as a floor and beam specialist. She placed ninth on beam(9.825) and 10th on floor (9.85) in thepreliminary session of the meet.
At the NCAA Southeast Regional, Woo captured her first pair of regional crowns with top finishes on beam (9.875) and floor (9.90). Woo was honored as Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week three times in 2008 (Jan. 15, Feb. 5, Feb. 26).
Woo made her all-around debut at Stanfordon March 7, just 30 miles from her hometown of Milpitas, Calif. She finished third with a career high 39.25, whichshe matched with another third-placeshowing at Penn State. At the Big 12 Championships, she placed fifth with a 39.175 and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship team forbeam and floor.
2007 • Sophom*ore Season
Woo brought high difficulty, unique choreography and an arsenal of skills to beam and floor in 2007. She captured two beam titles, finishing first on the event against Oklahoma (9.90) and at the Masters Classic (9.875). Woo earned first-team All-America honors on beam, where she was previously a second-team All-American as a freshman.
Woo opened the season at the Super Six Challenge in Fayetteville, Ark., with a third-place 9.825 on floor, and the Huskers’ top floor mark of the night. At Nebraska’s next meet at Iowa State on Jan. 19, Woo finished third on floor (9.875) and tied for second on beam (9.825) with teammate Kylie Stone. At Missouri, Woo added a fourth-place showing on floor (9.85). After finishing first on beam with a 9.90 against Oklahoma, Woo won her second beam title of the year by tying with fellow Husker Emily Parsons (9.875) at the Masters Classic.
A week later against Utah, Woo set a career best on beam with a 9.925 for second behind Parsons (9.95). The Milpitas, Calif., native took second-place honors on beam at LSU, posting a 9.875, and added a 9.775 on floor and a 9.625 in her first vault appearance of the season. In Nebraska’s final regular-season meet, Woo grabbed third-place honors on beam (9.85) and added a 9.825 on floor.
Woo competed on beam at the Big 12 Championships, posting a 9.70 on her lone event. In a last-minute decision by Coach Dan Kendig, Woo was scratched from the floor lineup after suffering a minor injury during her beam routine and was replaced with junior Brittney Williams. Woo returned to the floor team at the NCAA West Regional with a 9.70 score, and took third-place honors on beam (9.875).
At the preliminary session of the NCAA Championships, Woo finished 12th on floor (9.85) and tied for second on beam (9.90) with five other competitors to garner first-team All-America status on the event. In the Super Six Finals, Woo contributed a 9.85 on beam and a 9.75 on floor, helping Nebraska to a sixth-place national finish. One of two Huskers to compete in individual event finals, Woo placed 13th on beam to close her sophom*ore campaign.
2006 • Freshman Season
In her first year, Woo captured first-team All-America honors on floor and second-team accolades on beam at the 2006 NCAA Championships. An All-Big 12 performer on beam, she competed on three events in her first season, earning time on vault, beam and floor. Woo also took home one floor crown and two beam titles to cap her inaugural Husker campaign.
At the Big 12 Championships, Woo put up a third-place 9.85 on beam and a 9.875 on floor for sixth, and she took home the first all-conference accolades of her career on beam. When the Huskers traveled to the NCAA Southeast Regional, Woo was a solid contributor in NU’s second-place team finish. With scores of 9.85 on beam and floor, she finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
Woo stormed into the preliminary session of the NCAA Championships with a 9.90 on floor to tie for third and a 9.825 on beam for fifth while helping NU finish first on its opening day of competition. En route to first-team All-America status on floor and a second-team award on beam, Woo earned a spot in event finals on floor later that weekend. In helping Nebraska to a fifth-place team finish at nationals the next night, Woo added a pair of 9.85 scores on beam and floor, placing 12th and sixth, respectively.
Woo was one of three Husker competitors in event finals and notched a 9.75 on floor to finish 10th.
Before Nebraska
Woo competed for Coaches Diane Amos, Tiina Vilenius and Abra Slater at West Valley Gymnastics. A four-time Junior Olympic National Championships qualifier, she had a solid showing at the 2004 Nationals, finishing 12th in the all-around, 10th on vault and 12th on floor. Woo, who placed fourth on vault at Nationals in 2003, was the California state vault and all-around champion that same year, while also finishing third on bars, fifth on beam and second on floor. She finished sixth on vault at Nationals in 2005 after earning the Region I beam title.
Woo was also an accomplished swimmer and diver at Milpitas High School. She took second-place honors in one-meter diving in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League and earned a varsity letter in swimming in 2005.
An outstanding student, Woo earned gold cord and GSE Golden Seal academic honors, and was involved in the Chinese Club and Math Club at Milpitas.
Woo chose Nebraska over Florida and California.
Personal
Tricia Woo was born March 11, 1987, and is the daughter of Eric and Audrey Woo. She has one sister, Erin, and one brother, Fred. A 2005 graduate of Milpitas High School, Woo is a nutrition science major at Nebraska and serves as the multicultural representative for NU's 2007-08 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
