Smiles all around! CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center invited a group of Korean musicians and dancers to entertain our community members. This was a continuation of the center’s cultural diversity series to connect our seniors to the rich and diverse tapestry of cultures that make up NYC.The experience was made possible through SU-CASA, a community arts engagement program that places artists and organizations in residence at senior centers across New York City. SU-CASA is collaboration among the New York City Council, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, NYC Department for the Aging, and four of the City’s local arts councils.

CPC hosted a press conference today to share the legislative and budget priorities that we advocated for and the impacts these will have on our staff and community members. As the cost of living soars, the FY24-25 budget and legislative session failed to deeply invest in and address the needs of our most marginalized communities. Despite a severe housing crisis, a home care workforce crisis, rising living costs, and a migration humanitarian crisis, the State took half measures that don't address the root causes of these issues.“The FY25 State budget included important support for our communities like the restoration of $30 million for the AAPI Equity Budget as well as the $4 million allocation for the Settlement House Program, and the State passed several laws to make our streets safer. However, the State failed to respond to the calls of community-based organizations and advocates to make much-needed deep investments and transformative legislative changes for AAPI, immigrant, and low-income communities including affordable housing and improved wages and working conditions for all human services and home care workers,” said Wayne Ho, President and CEO of the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC). CPC remains committed to empowering our communities through meaningful transformative investments. Over the past year, CPC staff and community members have led budget advocacy efforts, including turning out over 320 community members in Albany for State Advocacy Day. We thank our legislative leaders for their support and will continue fighting to ensure all New Yorkers have a thriving, dignified life. #CISANI2024 Conference Highlights🌏 CPC had the privilege of attending the grand opening of the Wong Avery Asia Pacific Peace Museum, the first in the world to be dedicated to educating and commemorating the history of World War II in Asia.🏥 We also visited Yee Hong, one of Canada's largest not-for-profit senior care organizations that has been providing culturally appropriate services to Asian seniors since 1994. ✌️ Last but not least, we joined the CISANI Gala and connected with peers!

We ❤️ Intergenerational ProgrammingMembers from CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center taught children from the Lois C. Lee Early Childhood Center the art of dumpling making 🥟Our group was joined by officers from the local New York City Police Department precinct, who got in on the fun after facilitating a self-defense workshop for our older adults earlier in the day. This is one of the many ways we embrace, educate, and empower the over 1,000 Queens residents who visit our multigenerational, multi-service community space in Flushing daily!#intergenerationalactivities #intergenerationalprogramming
